11+
The 11+ system is a total minefield of complexity and idiosyncrasies. Understanding exactly which exam boards and formats are required for each school as well as targeted practice are essential as places are so highly competitive. I always recommend at least 18 months of preparation.
13+
This is often the first time that students have to juggle exams in a whole range of academic subjects. A clear structure and support is vital to ensure that excellence is achieved across the board. Few schools have the same process or exams so early understanding and preparation are key.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Often unfamiliar to students, NVR tests spatial and pattern-based thinking under pressure. Success hinges on exposure to varied formats and school-specific strategies. Training for these tests has to be rigorous and overseen by an expert in the exam system.
Verbal Reasoning
VR challenges logic, language and quick inference. Formats differ widely, so targeted practice is vital to master codes, analogies and comprehension. The sheer amount of vocabulary required is overwhelming if not broken down and taught by an expert.
Interview Preparation
I train students for these interviews in the same way as I do for Oxbridge. They assess knowledge, curiosity and confidence and students are required to think on their feet and engage in healthy debate.
Study Skills
The majority of schools simply don't teach students how to study properly. Strategies for moving materials from working memory into long-term memory have to be implemented as soon as possible. There is too much information to cram last minute.
